Titanic Thompson would bet that he could make at least three out of five putts from 30 feet away (he would usually make four out of five and many times five out of five). What his victims didn’t know was that the night before the “take” Titanic would place a heavy water hose between the edge of the green and the hole creating a nearly imperceptible trough to the hole.Titanic would simply get the ball started down the line and the “trough” would take care of the rest. Thompson was said to have won tens of thousands with this con.
