Harbour Town Links is one of the shorter courses on the PGA Tour measuring just short of 7000 yards and is a Par 71 layout. Although not long,there is definitely a premium on accuracy with a number of holes being well protected by water and dense trees. The greens are also fairly small putting a premium on hitting fairways in order to attack pins from the short stuff.
Branden Grace Wins Volvo Golf Champions for Second European Tour Title
Ernie Els and Retief Goosen did battle at Fancourt again, but this time found themselves out-gunned by the new star of South African golf.
A week after capturing his first European Tour title, 23-year-old Branden Grace beat two of his boyhood heroes in a play-off for the Volvo Golf Champions.
Grace and Colsaerts lead by one in South Africa
(CNN) — Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts and South African Branden Grace share the lead after the third round of the Volvo Golf Champions event at The Links at Fancourt in George, South Africa.
Both men finished on 10-under par after Saturday’s play despite having contrasting individual rounds.
Colsaerts finished with a four-under par 69 after eagling the par-five 18th to finish on top with Grace, whose topsy-turvy back nine — which included two double bogeys and four birdies — meant he finished the day with a two-over par round of 75.
Colsaerts storms ahead at Volvo Champions Tournament
GEORGE — Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts displayed all his wares when he stormed home to a course record nine-under par 64 in the opening round of the Volvo Champions Tournament at The Links at Fancourt.
Playing in the European Tour’s €2 million (R20,5 million) event over the par-73, Gary Player-designed layout, he put a bogey on the sixth hole behind him and racked up nine birdies in the final 11 holes to put four strokes of daylight between him and the pursuing trio of England’s Tom Lewis and South African duo Branden Grace and Thomas Aiken.
Clarke, Els & Harrington Ready For Volvo Golf Champions Tournament
Darren Clarke, Ernie Els and Pádraig Harrington are ready to compete in the Volvo Golf Champions Tournament along with 11-time winner on the European Tour, Robert Karlsson. They will play in the European Tour’s first-ever true ‘tournament of champions’ event to be held at The Links at Fancourt, from 19th – 22nd January.
They join a host of stars already confirmed including Major winners Retief Goosen, Paul Lawrie, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel and European Tour stars such as Thomas Björn, Nicolas Colsaerts, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Tom Lewis, Matteo Manassero, Colin Montgomerie and Alexander Norén in competing for a €350,000 (Approx. US$500,000) first prize and a prize fund of €2million (Approx. US$2,700,000).
